Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before enrolling in Barky, Pulley, Lungy.

What is reactivity and how is it different from aggression?

Reactivity is an overreaction to stimuli like other dogs, people, or vehicles. Most reactive dogs are frustrated, fearful, or over-aroused — not aggressive. Our course addresses the emotional root of reactivity using positive reinforcement, helping dogs build genuine confidence rather than suppressing behavior.

Classes are limited to a maximum of 4 dogs. This ensures every team gets adequate space, attention, and the ability to work at carefully managed distances with visual barriers available as needed.

No prior training is required. Dogs of any age who react on leash are welcome. We do require a mandatory assessment before enrollment so we can understand your dog’s specific triggers and reactivity profile, and ensure our program is the right fit.

The Barky, Pulley, Lungy course runs for 4 weeks with one session per week. Each session builds progressively on the previous week’s work, from establishing baselines to real-world integration practice.

We use exclusively positive reinforcement methods including counter-conditioning, desensitization, and threshold management. We never use aversive tools like prong collars, e-collars, or leash corrections. Our CPDT-KA certified trainers focus on changing the emotional response, not suppressing behavior.

Bring your dog on a flat collar or front-clip harness with a standard 6-foot leash, plus high-value treats. We recommend soft, smelly treats that your dog loves. Avoid retractable leashes and back-clip harnesses. We’ll send a detailed checklist after your assessment.

That’s exactly what our assessment is for. If your dog’s reactivity level is too high for group work right now, we’ll recommend starting with private training sessions to build foundation skills first. Many dogs progress to the group course after a few private sessions.
